What's the Difference?

I recall being assured - since childhood, actually - that there is a vast difference between how elections are conducted in communist countries vs. those in the United States. I accepted the dogma that those in power under the former would actually kill their opponents under communism. I had no reason to doubt same.

We see now what happened to Alexei Navalny, Putin's arch critic, opponent and adversary for more freedom and human rights in Russia. He was “sent to Siberia” as the old saying goes. Novalny was sentenced to an Arctic penal colony for 19 years on charges of “extremism.” His death, at 47 years of age, occurred just a month before an election in which Putin is seeking another 6 year term in office. And more bizarrely, his body is not being released to either his mother or wife for proper burial. Putin has ignored requests from both women. Critics of Putin conjure there may be tell tale signs of murder on the body.

Many of our elected officials in Florida, and across our country, of course, have expressed outrage over Navalny's sudden death. (He was 47 years of age.) Even Vegetable Man and Orange Man have chimed in with comments. Biden based the death on Putin's brutality.

But I cannot help but compare what is happening in our upcoming US election for President in 2024 to Russia's upcoming election. I see the leading contender here in the US being charged with consequences that, if found guilty, might result in 90+ years of imprisonment on what we are seeing ourselves as flimsy and/or trumped up charges by either George Soros' hand picked individuals or those seeking power and /or fame for themselves.

Now can someone explain to me why there is such a belief that there exists a vast different in the two approaches? Yes, death is more severe but doesn't either approach achieve the same end? Victory for the person in power?

Just askin'..............
