The Council of 100

The Council of 100 was formed in 1982 specifically to fund a permanent Republican Headquarters in Martin County and to advance Republican philosophy and goals. To date, the Council has been completely financed by membership fees and donations. Its mission remains the same today as it was at inception.

Since its formation, the Council has funded not only a permanent headquarters but has provided furnishings, computers, copiers and other office necessities for the Headquarters. As a result, this headquarters has one of the most sophisticated political computer operations in the state of Florida. This capability is available to all Republican candidates and has been used with great success. From 1999 to 2005, all elected officials in Martin County were Republican.

While the Council does not contribute to primary campaigns, it has, over the years, helped fund the efforts of the Republican Executive Committee in general elections. This year, we financed the mailing of a brochure promoting Republican candidates statewide and to get out the vote. In the past, we have contributed to the Republican Party of Florida and the Campaigns of Governor Bob Martinez, Governor Jeb Bush, and the 2006 Election Night gathering for State Representative Joe Negron while running for the US House of Representatives.

Membership solicitation and fundraising is a year round effort for the Council. In January of each year, a mailing goes out to prospects to inviting them to join. As members, these contributors receive the Republican Executive Committee mailings, periodic information about Republican activities, a listing on the membership plaque at headquarters, and a complimentary invitation to the annual Council of 100 event in early April of each year. We hope to collect more email addresses and implement an enewsletter to our members in 2007. Additionally, members get the first opportunity to attend Council fundraisers.

Activities of the Council are managed by a Board of Directors elected by the Members yearly. The 2010-2011 Board of Directors is as follows:

President:
Larry Magar
Vice President:
Henri DesPlaines
Secretary:
Sue Riddell
Treasurer:
J. Charles Stracuzzi
Directors:
Tom Bakkedahl
Linda Braswell
Nita Denton
John Dimbat
Elmira Gainey
John Hudock
Jeff Krauskopf
Sue Riddell
J. Michael Smith
Robert Stilley

The goal of the Council of 100 continues to be to provide funds for a permanent headquarters – we currently fund rent and utilities while the Republican Executive Committee remains responsible for all other day to day and election expenses - and to support Republican policies and principles in Martin County. It is also a goal to expand membership in the Council to all who are interested. If you are not a member and wish to become one, please contact Republican Headquarters at 286-0615.
